Photo By: Egil PaulsonMC Scott (Born William Scotty McCoy) is a Connecticut native and a Jacksonville resident. He began making music in 2003 and has now begun producing and engineering. McCoy has a unique sound, never quite staying with one genre but rather exploring what each type of sound and instrument has to offer. He has one such titles as 3rd Place Rap Solo in Florida (2004), 3rd Place National Rap Solo (2005) and 1st Place Rap Solo in Florida (2006). As of now he is working with the group For Real Ministries on sound production and recording. Beginning with an subtle and very slight oriental feel this instrumental wonder then transforms into a clash of beat and piano creating an almost low-fi jazz experience.

Minus the Bear has begun to slow down from their old fun selves. I'm not saying that this is bad thing I'm just saying that I miss the fun driving to the beach Minus the Bear stuff such as this great track from They Make Beer Commercials Like This.

I just can't let go. I refuse often times to listen to their new music. However as stated in the previous Thirsty Thursdays after the loss of guitarist Zeke Buck things just sort of became bland. However I will not let go of what was already made. Le Funk will be an album that I will always be comfortable listening to. It's great for any situation whether that be love making, partying, discoing, or even driving back from a court case in Atlanta, GA with all the windows rolled down freezing our asses off to stay awake and getting looks from people because we are blaring VHS or Beta. I will not let that kind of stuff go. I will not leave my disco paradise!

Minus the Bear's newest CD "Planet of Ice" is scheduled to be released August 21st. The album holds true to the Minus the Bear rythem and sound. New keyboardist Alex Rose makes an impressive debut on the album after replacing Matt Bayles who went on to focus on his production career. The band continues to put to use their incredible guitar delay and reverb effects (the band has a total of eight Line 6 DL4s between the bassist guitarist and guitarists!). Minus the Funny Titles; Minus the Bear was formerly known for having funny song titles such as "Hey, Wanna Throw Up? Get Me Naked." however this tradition dissipated after the release of "Menos El Oso." I was hoping to see the tradition be restarted with this release, unfortunately it didn't. TakeoffZebra pointed out that the track "Dr. L'Ling" could be refering to "DLing" as in downloading.I had a difficult time picking the song that I wanted to put up for this post however, after listening to the album a few times over I decided on Ice Monster. The song has a very melodic intro and the enchanting vocals of Jake Snider. The song leans to more of the relaxing soothing side of Minus the Bear. Song number 2 is "Dr. L'Ling" which I've posted on the blog about a month back. I hope you guys enjoy both songs. I plan on purchasing the new album and you can also help support the band by purchasing/pre-ordering their albums here.

Recovering from my night of drunken shenanigans (wee little shenanigans) I was listening to the newest Fall of Troy and Feist albums. Yet came across something else. A little tasty snack of what is yet to come...Minus the Bear have released several LP's and EP's all with good success. A few months back they announced that after the remix CD of Menos el Oso which was entitled Interpretaciones del Oso they have begun working on a 7th release, Planet of Ice (8/21). This song is different than any other MTB song's that I've experienced. Alex Rose churns out the electronics; Jake Snider begins a chord to carry along with Erin Tate's drums and Cory Murchy's bass. Finally... Dave Knudson begins the build of up a delay / reverb guitar riff in typical Minus the Bear fashion. Snider and Knudson build up to an jam session, the rest is magic. But enough of me blabbering, listen for yourself and watch out for the release in late August.

It really gets you down sometimes doesn't it? School is hard work, trying to make it by in your classes. If you don't believe in higher education and you feel like working hard right out of high school then you have to worry about how you are going to make the next pay check and other shit.What if one were completely and utterly apathetic? Doesn't that mean he would be completely happy and content no what? Evicted from his home and tossed out on the street, barely any food to survive, only the entertainment of people walking by his ally. However, if he was completely and totally apathetic, this would make him happy. Sitting around all day and just wondering, watching, listening.
Sometimes I think that this would be much better than this little thing we all let get to us called life. Here is what I want you to do if you agree with this. Don't give up your dreams or ambitions or anything like that. But this weekend... just go fucking nuts, party, have some fucking fun. Be apathetic; don't worry about work, school, church, whatever. JUST GO HAVE A GOOD TIME DAMNIT!
